Alberto Albertini is currently Chief of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Department at Salus Hospital - GVM Research and Care in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Prior to this he was Senior Consultant Cardiovascular Surgeon at Maria Cecilia Hospital – GVM Research and Care in Cotignola, Italy, between 1996 and 2010 and Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Santa Maria della Misericordia Hospital in Udine, Italy, betwenn 1991 and 1996.
Dr. Albertini has performed more than 6000 open-heart procedures in his career, of these, over 1000 have been minimally invasive cardiac surgeries. Dr. Albertini is also involved in training surgeons across Europe and abroad in advanced and innovative techniques. He completed his training and acquired his MD and Masters’ degree in cardiovascular surgery from the University of Bologna, Italy.
Thereafter, he did a 2 year clinical fellowship in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at the Cliniques Universitaires St. Luc in Bruxells, Belgium. His areas of interest are minimally invasive coronary and heart valve surgery, sutureless aortic valve replacement, total arterial and off pump bypass surgery, complex aortic arch surgery, aortic root surgery and infective endocarditis.
