Mauro Del Giglio is currently Chief of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Department at Maria Cecilia Hospital – GVM Research and Care in Cotignola, Italy; prior to this he was Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery Unit at Villa Torri Hospital, Bologna, Italy (2012-2014). He obtained the bachelor of medicine and Surgery at University of Florence, Italy and completed his training with Masters’ degree in cardiovascular surgery and PhD at University of Modena, Italy. Thereafter, he did a 2 year clinical fellowship in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at the Marie Lannelongue and I. M. Montsouris Hospital in Paris, France. He performed an executive master in management of health authorities (EMMAS) at SDA Bocconi University, Milan, Italy. Dr. Del Giglio performed more than 5,000 open-heart procedures in his career as first surgeon, of these, over 1,500 have been minimally invasive cardiac surgeries. In addition to minimally invasive surgery adopted for valve (mitral and aortic) and coronary surgery, main interest fields are mitral valve repairs, aortic valve sparing operation, surgery of aortic root, ascending, arch and thoracoabdominal aorta. In addition, concerning the domin of cardiac assist device he pays particular attention on management of extracorporeal circulation membrane oxygenation as support for heart and lungs.
